Oklahoma is among the most Republican states in the country. Donald Trump carried it by 34.3 points in 2024, almost exactly his 33.1 in 2020, and it has voted Republican for president in every election since 1968. The map underneath is the sharper measure. In 2024 not one of Oklahoma’s 77 counties went Democratic — the closest, Oklahoma County, holding Oklahoma City, came within 1.7 points of the Republican line but did not cross it. The state has form here: in 2008, when it backed John McCain by 31.3 points, Oklahoma was the only state in the nation where the Republican nominee carried every county, all 77 of them.
The metropolitan anchors have drifted only at the edges. Oklahoma County ran Republican by 28.5 points in 2004 and closed to 1.1 in 2020 before ticking back to 1.7 in 2024 — an urban county trending against a heavily Republican field, but never a flip. Tulsa County held by 15.2 points, near its 15.6 in 2020; Cleveland County, around Norman and the University of Oklahoma, by 14.9. The rest runs further still, out to Cimarron County in the panhandle, the reddest in the state at 84.9 points. The profile beneath the map is Evangelical and ancestrally Native: Oklahoma holds the second-largest Evangelical Protestant share of any state, at 41.7 percent.
It is among the most Native-rooted states — 8.9 percent of residents report two or more races, third-highest anywhere, the largest tribal groups reported being Muscogee, Chickasaw, and Cherokee. The economic ground is modest: 43rd of 50 in median household income at $65,039, against a U.S. median of $80,734, and 44th in the bachelor’s-degree share. In 2026 the state will choose a new governor, with Kevin Stitt term-limited. The Republican primary did not settle it, sending Attorney General Gentner Drummond and former state senator Mike Mazzei to an August 25 runoff; State Representative Cyndi Munson won the Democratic nomination. In a state this Republican, the runoff is the contest.
