Roberts County recorded an R+92.1 margin in 2024, making it among the most one-sided counties in the country. With fewer than 900 residents spread across the Texas Panhandle, its small electorate consistently produces some of the most extreme margins in any statewide race.
The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in Roberts County peaked at eighty-eight points in 1936; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 1952 election delivered the county to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of sixty-one points. By 2024, the margin had widened further.
The economic and demographic context is severe. Roberts County's median household income of $67,868 is among the lowest of any county in the United States; 6% of residents live below the federal poverty line. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Gray County and Major County.
