Akashic is a source-first atlas and research system for American political geography. These documents explain what the product contains, how its figures are made, where the data comes from, what public interfaces guarantee, and how to cite or reuse the work.

Begin with Getting started, then use the product surface guide to understand the Atlas, explore tools, research surfaces, and versioned analytical products.

Verify a number

Use the data overview, data dictionary, coverage contract, source register, and methodology. The database architecture explains which system builds and which system serves the record.

Cite or reuse Akashic

Use the citation guide for attribution, stable links, embeds, screenshots, and the evidence to retain with a published figure.

Build with Akashic

Use the API overview for static JSON, long-tail Place responses, embeds, oEmbed, and MCP interfaces. A route's existence does not imply that every geography, year, or field has equal coverage.

Core contract

• The complete continuous public presidential record is 1892–2024.
• Earlier 1876–1888 returns are partial and labeled partial.
• Historical depth varies by office and geography.
• Native, exact-rollup, reconciled, modeled, and missing values are distinct evidence classes.
• Counts that change with a release are dated generated facts.
• Public, research, professional, and emerging campaign capabilities share a Place-centered evidence model, but planned work is never presented as shipped.

Documentation integrity

Every page has an owner, evidence level, lifecycle status, and review date. The changelog records material contract changes. If production, source, and documentation conflict, report the mismatch; documentation is a maintained contract, not a substitute for the underlying record.
