Coverage contract
See which years, offices, geographic tiers, and evidence classes Akashic supports, including the difference between complete county history and shorter sub-county series.
Coverage is not one number. Historical depth differs by office, geographic tier, source availability, and whether a value is natively reported or derived onto another boundary.
Presidential record
| Scope | Supported contract |
|---|---|
| Complete public presidential record | 1892–2024 |
| Earlier returns | 1876–1888 are partial and must be labeled partial |
| County and county-equivalent headline | 3,143 units, including Connecticut planning regions |
| Sub-county presidential series | 2004–2024 in the current product contract, with source/method flags by state and cycle |
A route or schema may technically accept a year earlier than 1892. That does not make the earlier series complete.
Static place-page families
The shipped index counted 18,491 static place pages on July 20, 2026 across 13 place-page tiers. This is a generated release fact, not a permanent constant. Recalculate after every data bake with the repository page-count audit.
| Family | Typical identifier | Coverage note |
|---|---|---|
| Nation | fixed key | National rollup |
| Region and division | slug | Census groupings |
| American Nation | slug | County-based cultural-region rollup |
| State | postal abbreviation or geography key | Statewide results and context |
| County | five-digit FIPS | Deepest complete presidential history |
| CBSA and CSA | Census metro code | Multi-county rollups |
| DMA | market code | Media-market rollup |
| Congressional district | state + district code | Current-boundary district profile |
| State-legislative upper/lower | chamber district code | Current-boundary district profile |
| City | Census place identifier | Promoted static city/place tier |
The dynamic Census-place long tail is served on demand and is not included in the static-page count. User-created Places are also separate from the static corpus.
Office coverage
| Office | Public depth |
|---|---|
| President | National/state/county complete product span 1892–2024; shorter sub-county span |
| US Senate | Modern contest archive at supported statewide/county/precinct depths by cycle |
| US House | Modern contest archive and district pages at supported depths |
| Governor | Recent statewide and available county/precinct contests |
| Presidential primaries | Supported recent Democratic primary cycles and geographies |
| State legislature and ballot measures | Not part of the general complete-coverage claim unless a specific page documents them |
Consult the election-family index rather than assuming every office exists for every year.
Native, reconciled, and estimated evidence
Akashic distinguishes:
- Native reported result — published at the same geographic unit by the source.
- Exact rollup — sum of complete constituent reported units.
- Reconciled disaggregation — larger certified totals allocated across smaller geography using documented source geometry and forced to reconcile to the larger total.
- Estimated attribution — a named or local detail inferred where only a surviving aggregate exists.
- Missing — not available and not filled.
The interface and record flags are part of the coverage contract. Removing an estimate flag changes the meaning of the value.
Boundary changes
Historical results may be crosswalked to modern identifiers and boundaries. Important examples include renamed counties, Connecticut's transition to planning regions, current legislative districts, and custom shapes drawn over current geography.
A historical number attached to a current boundary is not necessarily the exact historical population footprint of that boundary. Use the methodology and provenance metadata when longitudinal boundary fidelity matters.
Demographic coverage
Demographic modules are sourced from their stated Census/ACS vintage and may differ by tier. Optional modules include CVAP, education, religion, voter registration, migration, and other specialized measures. Absence is not zero.
Freshness
Coverage dates and page counts can change with a release. For reproducible analysis, retain the Akashic data release or retrieval date and use the versioned manifest. This page is reviewed against the generated index and current product-state contract.
