Randall County, home to the city of Canyon and part of the Amarillo metro, has posted Republican presidential margins above 60 points in recent cycles, reflecting the cultural and demographic profile of the Texas Panhandle's rural-suburban core.
The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in Randall County peaked at eighty-four points in 1936; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 1952 election delivered the county to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of thirty-nine points. By 2024, the margin had widened further.
The economic and demographic context is severe. Randall County's median household income of $83,864 is among the lowest of any county in the United States; 10% of residents live below the federal poverty line. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Kendall County and York County.
