Anchored by Wichita Falls, this county sits at the edge of the Red River plains and has delivered lopsided Republican margins in every recent presidential cycle, with 2024's R+44 continuing a decades-long pattern of minimal competitive tension.

The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in Wichita County peaked at seventy-five points in 1936; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 1980 election delivered the county to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of thirteen points. By 2024, the margin had widened further.

The economic and demographic context is severe. Wichita County's median household income of $63,524 is among the lowest of any county in the United States; 17% of residents live below the federal poverty line. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Johnson County and Brown County.
