Henrico wraps around Richmond's northern and eastern edges, blending inner-ring urban neighborhoods with older suburbs. Its college-educated, racially diverse electorate has shifted decisively leftward over the past decade, producing margins that now rival the city itself.
The 2008 election was the turning point, when the Democratic candidate carried the county by twelve points. The 2024 margin was twenty-nine points, in line with the county's new direction.
The demographics suggest why. A population of 335,744, a 51% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $88,783 situate the county in the broader realignment patterns of recent cycles. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Hamilton County and Prince William County.
