DuPage County, long one of Illinois's most reliably Republican counties, has shifted markedly leftward over the past decade as college-educated suburban voters realigned. In 2024 it delivered a Democratic presidential margin of 13.1 points.
The 2008 election was the turning point, when the Democratic candidate carried the county by eleven points. The 2024 margin was thirteen points, in line with the county's new direction.
The demographics suggest why. A population of 930,024, a 65% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $112,096 situate the county in the broader realignment patterns of recent cycles. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Kane County and Charleston County.
