Coffee County sits on the Highland Rim southeast of Nashville, anchored by Manchester, and has shifted from a competitive rural Democrat stronghold in the 1990s to one of Tennessee's most lopsided Republican counties, posting a 55-point margin in 2024.

The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in Coffee County peaked at sixty-eight points in 1940; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 2000 election delivered the county to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of zero points. By 2024, the margin had widened further.

The economic and demographic context is severe. Coffee County's median household income of $61,505 is among the lowest of any county in the United States; 17% of residents live below the federal poverty line. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Putnam County and Morgan County.
