Demographics
Summit County, anchored by Park City's resort economy and a high share of college-educated transplants, has posted double-digit Democratic margins in recent presidential cycles — a consistent outlier in one of the country's most reliably Republican states.
The 2016 election was the turning point, when the Democratic candidate carried the county by fifteen points. The 2024 margin was fifteen points, in line with the county's new direction.
The demographics suggest why. A population of 42,970, a 85% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $138,114 situate the county in the broader realignment patterns of recent cycles. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Fayette County and San Diego County.
