Bristol County covers just three towns on a narrow peninsula between Narragansett Bay and Mount Hope Bay, yet its dense concentration of college-educated coastal residents has made it one of Rhode Island's most reliably Democratic jurisdictions.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of 52.4 points in 1964 and a Republican high of 49.0 points in 1896. Between 2020 and 2024 the county moved 2.9 points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was 26.4 points.
A population of 50,490, a 88% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $114,490 describe the county. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Newport County and Mercer County.
