Georgetown County sits at the heart of South Carolina's historic rice coast, and despite a sizable Black population concentrated in its older river communities, the county shifted decisively Republican in 2024 by nearly 20 points.
The shift began with civil rights. 2000 marked the realignment in Georgetown County, by a five points margin. The Republican margin reached its widest at twenty-six points in 1952. The 2024 margin was nineteen points.
The political shift has tracked, in Georgetown County, the political shift of the South more broadly. A 66% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $68,713, and a 15% poverty rate describe the demographic context. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Screven County and Brooks County.
