Demographics
Texas 33rd State House District sits in the Gulf South and Southern Plains. Its political identity was forged in the union halls of the mid-twentieth century, when industrial labor and the Democratic party became, for working people, two faces of the same political fact. That identity held for 15 consecutive presidential elections.
The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in Texas 33rd State House District peaked at ninety-four points in 1936; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 1972 election delivered the district to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of fifty-two points. By 2024, the margin had settled into deep Republican territory.
The economic and demographic context is severe. The median household income of $126,659 is among the lowest at this geographic scale; 5% of residents live below the federal poverty line.
