Anchoring Minnesota's northwestern corner, this rural district delivered a 41-point presidential margin in 2024, making it among the most one-sided state house seats in a state that otherwise trends competitive statewide.
The unraveling was not abrupt. The Democratic margin in State House District 1A peaked at forty-six points in 1936; it narrowed steadily over the late twentieth century. The 2000 election delivered the district to the Republican party for the first time in many years, by a margin of twenty-two points. By 2024, the margin had widened further.
