akashic / terms

Terms of Service.

These terms govern your use of Akashic. They’re meant to be readable: use the atlas freely, cite it generously, don’t abuse the shared infrastructure, and understand that the numbers here are a reference — not an official election record.

Acceptance & eligibility

By using Akashic you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

Election data is unofficial reference

Akashic is an independent reference atlas. It is not affiliated with any election authority, candidate, party, or government body, and nothing here is an official result, certification, or projection of any office. Historical figures are compiled from public sources and our own processing; any forecast is expressed as a probability and scored publicly after the fact; any live-election figures are provisional estimates that can change. Do not rely on Akashic for official, legal, or voting-administration purposes — consult your state or local election office for authoritative results.

Using our data & embeds

The atlas content and data are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) — you may reuse it, including commercially, as long as you credit Akashic and link back. Our embeddable widgets’ code is offered under the MIT license (see attribution). Reasonable, attributed use of our open data endpoints is welcome; automated access that degrades service for others — excessive crawling, scraping that ignores documented limits, or attempts to replicate the whole corpus in bulk without attribution — is not. We may rate-limit or block traffic that threatens availability.

Accounts, Canvas & Ask

Your content

Regions you draw in Canvas and any profile text you write remain yours. By saving content you grant us a non-exclusive license to store, process, and — for content you mark public — display it as part of the service. Don’t post unlawful, infringing, or abusive content.

The Ask feature

Ask generates answers with an AI model grounded in Akashic’s data. Answers can be incomplete or wrong; treat them as a starting point, not authority, and verify anything that matters against the underlying pages and sources. Don’t use Ask to attempt to extract disallowed content or to overwhelm the service; usage may be rate-limited.

Acceptable use

Don’t attempt to breach security, reverse-engineer the service to harm it, misrepresent Akashic’s data as official, or use the site to harass others. We may suspend accounts that do.

Third-party sources

Akashic compiles data from public sources including the US Census Bureau, the MIT Election Data and Science Lab, VEST, Voteview, and others, each under its own terms. Their data remains subject to those terms; our methodology and attribution document the provenance.

No warranty & limitation of liability

Akashic is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Akashic and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — the service or its data.

Intellectual-property complaints

If you believe content on Akashic infringes your rights, contact us at hello@akashic.app with enough detail to identify the material and your claim, and we will review it promptly.

Changes & contact

We may update these terms as the product evolves; the “last updated” date above reflects the current version, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. Questions: hello@akashic.app.
