Privacy Policy.
Akashic is a public reference atlas. Most of it works with no account and no cookies. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who else is involved, and what you can ask us to do about it — in plain terms.
Last updated: June 24, 2026.
The short version
- Browsing the atlas requires no account and sets no cookies.
- Our analytics are cookieless and anonymous — no cross-site tracking, no advertising profiles.
- We set one essential cookie only after you sign in, to keep you signed in.
- We do not sell your data and run no advertising trackers.
- If you have an account, you can export or delete your data at any time.
What we collect, and why
- Account information (only if you sign up)
Authentication is handled by Clerk. When you create an account we receive your email address, your display name, and — if you use a social login — the basic profile identifier from that provider. We store a corresponding user record so your saved work belongs to you.
- Content you create
If you use Canvas to draw and save a custom region, we store that shape and its computed rollup. If you set a public profile handle or bio, that content is shown publicly at your profile URL. Shapes you mark private are not listed or indexed.
- Ask queries
When you use the Ask feature, your question is sent to our model provider (Anthropic) to generate an answer grounded in Akashic’s data. We may log queries to monitor abuse and improve retrieval; any logged record stores a salted hash of your IP address, never the raw address. We do not use your questions to build a profile of you.
- Anonymous analytics & performance
We use privacy-first, cookieless analytics (Plausible) to understand which content is useful, and anonymous Web Vitals beacons to measure page performance. Neither sets a cookie, neither stores personal identifiers, and neither follows you across other sites.
- Server logs
Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) transiently to serve traffic and defend against abuse.
Cookies
Akashic uses no non-essential cookies and shows no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to for ordinary browsing. The only cookie we set is the session cookie issued by Clerk after you sign in, which is strictly necessary to keep you authenticated. Our analytics are cookieless by design. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who else is involved
We rely on a small set of service providers, each for a specific function:
- Cloudflare
Hosting, CDN, and security for the site and its data.
- Clerk
Authentication and account management.
- Anthropic
The language model that powers the Ask feature (receives your question text).
- Plausible
Cookieless, aggregate web analytics.
- Buttondown
Newsletter delivery, if you subscribe (stores the email you provide).
- US Census Geocoder
Resolves an address you type into the search box to a location; we do not store it.
Children
Akashic is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data associated with your account. Residents of the EU/EEA, the UK, and California (among others) have specific rights under the GDPR and CCPA — including access, deletion, and the right not to be sold (we don’t sell data). If you have an account, deleting it removes your profile and saved content. To make any request, email us at privacy@akashic.app.
Retention & security
We keep account data for as long as your account exists, and abuse-monitoring logs for a limited period before they are discarded or aggregated. Data is transmitted over HTTPS and held by reputable providers; no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we collect in the first place.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy as the product evolves; material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above. Questions or requests: privacy@akashic.app. See also our Terms of Service and about page.
