Hagerty served as Trump's ambassador to Japan and won his 2020 race by 27 points after a contentious primary against Manny Sethi. He's positioned himself as a trade and foreign policy hawk with tight Trump alignment. Tennessee hasn't elected a Democratic senator since Al Gore in 1990 — that's 36 years of futility. Phil Bredesen (a popular former governor) couldn't crack it in 2018 against Blackburn despite favorable conditions, and the state has only gotten redder since. Trump won by 30 in 2024. Not competitive by any measure.
