McMaster is term-limited and the GOP primary is a genuine knife fight. Wilson leads most polls at 22-23% but Mace has the highest name ID and the most negatives (47% unfavorable) — she’s polarizing even within the party. Ralph Norman and Lt. Gov. Pam Evette add to the fragmentation, with 37% still undecided. Trump’s endorsement could be decisive in a field this crowded, and 80% of respondents describe themselves as MAGA Republicans. But none of this matters for the general: South Carolina hasn’t elected a Democratic governor since 1998, and Democrats haven’t won any statewide race since 2006.
