McKee is the least popular governor in America per Morning Consult, with approval as low as 19% among likely Democratic primary voters in the latest UNH poll. Foulkes leads him 34-18 with 40% undecided, and their 2022 primary rematch (McKee edged her by just 3 points) looks like it’ll flip this time. McKee is nearly as unpopular with state voters as Trump. But here’s the thing: whoever wins the Democratic primary wins the general. Rhode Island is D+24, and Republicans haven’t won a gubernatorial race here since 2006. The story is the primary, not the general.
